There are a number of ‘freemium’ local magazines about, so how is Four Gates different?
• Four Gates of Gloucester is a self-funded social enterprise.
• We’re not for profit. All funds after costs will be used towards projects to better our City.
• We want to share and distribute articles, features and good news for free. We’re not in competition with any other publication, we’re aiming to help the common cause of regenerating and improving our City.
• Always less than 50% adverts.
• We self distribute, dropping 5,000 magazines off around our City.
• We keep the costs of our advertising right down, to just cover costs.
• We’re independent and we’re based in Gloucester City Centre. Driven by Gloucester business for Gloucester businesses.
• An online directory, helping direct visitors and potential shoppers to your business.
• A well established co-operative model. (Although Four Gates is new, the Westgate Association has been created by traders in the City to mutually support and help each other since the 1930’s. The Westgate Quarter website collects huge volumes of traffic and delivers it to supporting businesses.)
• To provide a comprehensive index of all local businesses online and in print.
We hope you like the magazine and can see the benefits of what we’re doing and that you will support us. Please send in any articles or requests to info@fourgatesofgloucester.co.uk
Gloucester has retained its four Roman gates streets. They were pedestrianised in
the 1980s and ’90s. They used to be controlled by a police officer on point duty and were once the busiest crossroads outside London. All the 4 gates meet at Gloucester Cross.
